Here are some hot five female celebs that were seen to destroy their career because of crash dieting.
Back in her Spice Girls days, Victoria Beckham struggled with an eating disorder that emotionally consumed her life despite being in denial about it then. She told ABC’s 20/20: “I was very obsessed. I mean, I could tell you the fat content and the calorie content in absolutely anything. I was never anorexic, I was never bulimic, but I was probably very close to it.” In her autobiography, the often stick-thin celebrity admitted to being pressured by the Spice Girls’ management into losing weight and taking liquid meal substitutes, but then in the following years a binge-eating habit took hold that included eating up to 10 bowls of cereal at a time. She has since denied suffering from anorexia after her weight plummeted following the birth of her first son, but rumors still persist.
Anna Nicole Smith
Before her death in 2007, Anna Nicole Smith was beset by many personal problems, but the way she chose to rapidly lose weight definitely seems to have been one of them. The former Playboy Playmate of the Year and reality TV star became a commercial spokesperson for the diet supplement Trim Spa, which claims to “stave off hunger.” The use of the supplement which contained the now FDA-banned ephedra is reportedly made the statuesque model lose 69 pounds. But the side effects quickly became all too obvious.
Oprah Winfrey has been dubbed “arguably the world’s most powerful woman” but is no stranger to common severe weight gain issues — she peaked at 238 pounds. An iconic moment was her reveal of her new “Optifast” size-8 body as she pulled out a wagon load of fat equivalent to what she lost. Of course, she famously gained it all back — and then some. She was quoted: “I’ve felt safer and more protected when I was heavy. Food has always been comforting,” she has said.
Britney Spears is another former child star whose life has become one of personal turmoil and problems with various substances. Some of those drugs have also reportedly been of the over-the-counter kind — specifically weight-control pills washed down with energy drinks. Britney uses green-tea supplements, to control her weight and energy levels.
Lindsay Lohan has had more than her fair share of troubles, but while her alcohol- and drug-related problems more often hit the headlines, her rapid weight loss issues have twice shocked observers. Most recently in 2009, pictures showed her plummeting weight were blamed on the calorie-killing medicines.
Respite knowing the ill-effects of crash dieting, there are many more celebs who have lost weight swiftly the same way. All of this for fame!!! At the stake of one’s life.
